Here's a link to wonderful blog article written by my friend Sarah Baldwin of bellaluna toys about how she broke the TV habit in her family. And this is written by a woman who used to be an actress and whose husband worked in the entertainment industry! A view from inside!
Turning off the TV can be hard - I actually think that doing it just for a week is much more difficult than actually throwing the darn thing out - cold turkey really is better. This is because, if you have been allowing your child to watch tv - even if you have limits - a week is not long enough for most families to adjust and for the children to get used to more creative, healthy and productive ways to spend their time. Generally speaking, it takes 40 days to break and create a new rhythm in the body. Forty days is an etheric rhythm, the etheric body being our "life force", similar to the vital force spoken about in homeopathy or chi worked with in acupuncture or some eastern forms of martial arts.
